The Wailing (2016)
The Wailing is an imperfect, but notable addition. It boldly breaks with the horror taboo to not mix subgenres, by quadrupling the terror. Are the evil entities in The Wailing ghosts, zombies, flesh-eating bacteria, or demons? Why not all four?
Over the course of two and a half hours we get to see exorcisms, cannibalism, and body horror — it’s definitely not boring! We also have a clumsy anti-hero, a possessed child (terrifyingly well acted) and a possessed rottweiler. From a Westerner’s viewpoint, it could have used some editing, but that doesn’t decrease its entertainment value.
Is it scary? Hmmm, not really. Is is pointless? Yeah, kinda. But is it also a whole lot of fun? Hell, yes!
